The Center for Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and Redesign Steering Committee was established in the Fall of 1998 to provide guidance in the formulation of policies and strategies regarding resource allocation, long-range planning, and evaluation/accountability.
This includes human as well as fiscal resources. The Center must establish priorities for assigning instructional consultants, media specialists, and graphic designers to faculty projects. It is clear that demand for the Center's resources will quickly exceed supply, and these policies will be vital. In addition, the Steering Committee will assist in determining the criteria for awarding UNT grants to support distributed learning.
UNT has established both quantitative and qualitative goals for its distributed learning activities, and this activity needs to continue. Guidance is also needed regarding the scope of the Center's activities, e.g., relationships to industry, training ventures, and continuing education outside of UNT. Ongoing decisions regarding membership and collaboration with virtual campuses (e.g. Southern Regional Electronic Campus) must be made.
The CLEAR Steering Committee reviews proposals to offer programs electronically and forwards recommendations to the Provost and VP for Academic Affairs concerning the appropriateness of the proposed program for delivery via distributed learning. The committee also reviews proposals to determine if they meet COC/SACS requirements for substantive change and forwards it recommendation to the University's COC/SACS liaison.
