We're Moving to Canvas!

UNT is transitioning its Learning Management System (LMS) from Blackboard Learn to  Canvas. Moving to Canvas is a step forward in our ongoing mission to ensure quality online education, and we’re excited about the host of new, easy-to-use Canvas features that will benefit both faculty and students for an overall upgraded online learning experience.

All online UNT courses will be offered exclusively in Canvas starting Spring 2019.

Canvas Migration

Canvas will be UNT's exclusive learning management system starting Spring 2019. Is your course ready? How can we help?

I want help from CLEAR to migrate my existing Blackboard courses.

Step One: Request Migration

  1. Complete the CLEAR Migration Form
    • Once submitted, CLEAR will:
      • Create a new Canvas development course.
      • Migrate your content from Blackboard into the development course.
      • Enroll you, the instructor, into the course.
      • Send you an e-mail when it is complete.

Step Two: Review

  1. Review your migrated Canvas development course. Consult your CLEAR Instructional Consultant if you have questions.
  2. Visit the Canvas Migration Checklist

Step Three: Offer Course in Canvas

Note: before 2019, online course offerings will still default to Blackboard. After 2019 Canvas will be the only default learning management system.

If you want to offer your course in Canvas before 2019, complete the Canvas Course Offering Form. You will get instructions after you submit the form. CLEAR will create a page in Blackboard for your course that will redirect students to the Canvas course.

  1. You'll receive access to a blank Canvas Course that will be used by the students.
  2. Import your content from your migrated Canvas development course into the new blank Canvas course.
  3. Students will then be enrolled in this course.

I want to build my Canvas course from scratch.

  1. Submit Canvas Sandbox Request Form
  2. Develop Course
  3. If you want to offer your course in Canvas before 2019, complete the Canvas Course Offering Form.
    1. Get Canvas Offering (blank course)
      1. Import your content from your Canvas development course
      2. Students will be enrolled in the canvas section

Note: If a course is offered in Canvas before 2019, CLEAR will create a page in Blackboard for your course that will redirect students to Canvas.unt.edu.

I’m not ready to migrate but would like to play with Canvas to learn more.
